Election Notice: Professional Officers election 2019-2021

By a decision of Council, Mr Neale Dawson, Principal Solicitor and Managing Director of NEW Law Pty Ltd, will be the Returning Officer as per the AEU New South Wales Teachers Federation Branch Rules for the election of Professional Officers of the AEU NSW Teachers Federation Branch for 2019-2021.

Nominations

Nominations are hereby invited for the following positions:

  • Multicultural Officer/Organiser (1)
  • Aboriginal Education Coordinator (1)
  • Communications and Online Coordinator (1)
  • Research/Industrial Officers (4)
  • Women’s Coordinator (1)
  • Professional Support Officers (5)
  • Membership and Training Officer (1)
  • Trade Union Training Officer (1)
  • City Organisers (9)
  • TAFE Organisers (3)
  • Country Organisers (12)

Candidates must be financial members of Federation as at Wednesday, 1 August, 2018, and must be nominated by at least two financial members of Federation.

A candidate may complete a candidate’s statement in support of candidature, which will be forwarded to the Branch Professional Officers Committee for consideration and compiled and distributed with the ballot paper. The statement should be no more than 400 words. The candidate’s statement should be typed in no less than a 12 point font and attached to their nomination. This should be a Word file as an attachment to an email sent to [email protected] marked to the attention of the Returning Officer.

This file will be used to print candidate statements on information sheets provided to voters.

Close of nominations

Completed nomination forms must be received by the Returning Officer not later than 12 noon Wednesday, 1 August, 2018. They may be hand delivered, posted, emailed or faxed to The Returning Officer, NEW Law Pty Ltd, 50 O’Dea Avenue, Waterloo NSW 2017, telephone (02) 8595 1295, fax 9662 1202, email [email protected].

On the close of nominations, where the Returning Officer considers that any nomination is defective he will immediately notify the person concerned. Any defects in a nomination must be rectified by the candidate not later than noon on Friday, 3 August.

Should more than the required number of nominations be received for each or any position, a draw will be conducted to determine the order of candidates’ names on the ballot paper at NEW Law at 1pm Friday, 3 August. Candidates or their representatives may attend to witness the draw.

Voting

Any ballot will be conducted at the Federation Council on Saturday, 11 August, 2018. Each candidate will have the opportunity to address the Council by way of a three-minute speech.

The method of voting to be observed for this election will be exhaustive preferential. All squares must be numbered.
