Association LGBTIQ contact

Every year Associations elect members into a range of positions to ensure the smooth running of the local Association, and to share information on specific matters in which the Federation is involved. One such position is the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer (LGBTIQ) Association Contact and members may be interested in standing for this position.

The LGBTIQ Association Contact is an elected role that seeks to raise the profile of LGBTIQ matters within your local teachers’ association and its workplaces. It is an important step in addressing homophobia, biphobia and transphobia in schools, which we know continue to be significant issues.

The LGBTIQ Contact’s role is to provide information and updates on matters relating to LGBTIQ staff and students – for example informing members about LGTBIQ campaigns Federation is involved with, passing on information about programs in which schools may become involved and other relevant information. It could also include acknowledging LGBTIQ dates of importance at Association or moving a motion to host a LGBTIQ seminar.

People who take on this role will receive an email in term 2 to assist them in understanding their role, and to establish contact with the Officer attached so that they make contact if they have any queries.
