Council Report: 1 June 2019

A strong united membership campaigning together has always been the key to achieving betterments for our members. June Council decisions and their implementation need members in their workplaces and Associations to be active.

Two decisions in particular call for members to engage and take action.

EQUITABLE RESOURCING OF SSPS AND SUPPORT CLASSES

Associations will invite their SSP and support classes representatives to attend Association meetings to jointly plan local action such as delegations to Members of Parliament, connection with local advocacy/cross agency/family organisations and media strategies to raise the profile of their SSPs and support classes work and needs.

Members from SSPs and support classes should contact their organiser for more information about the campaign.

PRE-2016 TEACHER PAY INEQUITY AUGUST WEEK OF ACTION

Associations are urged to express their solidarity with affected teachers by writing to their local Members of Parliament in June to arrange a meeting and advocate for pay equity for our affected teachers during the week of 12-16 August.

There is much work to be done and the engagement of members at a workplace and Association level will be crucial to the long-term objectives of Federation.

The decisions of each Council meeting are communicated to schools through TeFed, which is emailed to Federation Representatives and workplace committee members. TeFed is also available through the Member’s Area of Federation’s website.

These matters and others will be discussed at your local Teachers Association meeting. Contact your local Organiser to find out when and where your next Association meeting will be held. Association meeting dates are also available online at www.www.nswtf.org.au/pages/association-meeting-dates.
