TAFE Teachers to Stop Work and Impose Work Bans

September 19, 2022

TAFE teachers, frustrated by the failure of TAFE NSW to bargain in good faith around uncompetitive salaries, exploitation of casual employees and untenable workloads, will hold stop work meetings as part of protected industrial action and the first stop work in nearly 12 years.

TAFE members of the NSW Teachers Federation have nominated 18 locations to hold a series of one (1) hour stop work meetings from Monday 19th September at the TAFE sites listed below.

For too long the NSW government and TAFE NSW have taken advantage of TAFE teachers’ goodwill to compensate for savage cuts to staff numbers and stagnated funding. TAFE teachers have now withdrawn that goodwill and have voted in a protected action ballot to put in place a variety of industrial bans as well as taking stop work action.

TAFE teachers are asserting their “right to switch off” with a ban on engaging in work-related communications outside of regular work hours.

From Monday 19 September 2022 TAFE teachers will “work to rule” with a ban on the performance of any unpaid duties at TAFE NSW exceeding the normal working week. Protected action will also be in place on fixing ongoing problems in TAFE NSW’s problematic IT system with bans on data error reports, missing marks and Smart and Skilled rejections.
