Aboriginal Members Conference
Federation's 20th Aboriginal Members Conference gets underway this morning with an agenda full of topics of interest to teachers.
Workshop sessions will cater for teachers' varying interests, including:
- knowing your rights and determining your workload
- considerations for teaching students with disability
- Federation activism
- Stop TAFE Cuts campaign
- women’s workplace rights
- creating safer schools for LGBTIQ students, families and teachers
- Performance and Development Framework
- beginning teacher accreditation and the probationary year.
Federation Aboriginal Education Coordinator Charline Emzin-Boyd will report on Aboriginal education in the context of the union's policy.
Conference delegates will be updated on the Gonski and Stop TAFE Cuts campaigns.
They will also be informed about recent changes to Department of Education policies.
Education International project director Angelo Gavrielatos, a former Federation deputy president, will talk about Education international's response to the growing commercialisation and privatisation of education.
In the afternoon, comedian Steven Oliver, of Black Comedy fame, will share his journey as an Aboriginal man.
NESA-accredited workshop sessions by Taronga Zoo and Cool Australia will offer suggestions for practical class lessons.
