VET teacher training issues clarified

November 15, 2018

VET teachers have raised concerns about new requirements for the Certificate IV imposed by the regulator Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) on all registered training authorities delivering VET courses.

The Department has stated that “each teacher will receive 3 or 4 days casual relief dependent on the number of units of competency to be completed (some need to complete 3 units and some four units)”.

Completed assignments are due by 7 December. The Department has advised that “teachers on extended leave will have the opportunity to complete the upgrade in 2019 when they return from leave”.

The Department has advised that both the new Certificate IV TAE 40116 and Certificate IV TAE 40116 transition programs are compliant with national regulatory standards and will be registered through MyPL.

The Department is seeking registration approval for 28 hours for the new Certificate IV (beginning VET teachers) and 21 hours for the Certificate IV transition program (current VET teachers). Further, all teachers who successfully complete this course will have their details recorded by the state office and provided to MyPL for accreditation.
