Fair Day

Federation celebrated the start of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras with its stand at Fair Day. The union hosted a stall at the event to communicate our support of LGBTIQ communities and celebrate our LGBTIQ members.

The members of Federation’s LGBTIQ Special Interest Group engaged with members of the public on our campaign, Stopping TAFE Cuts and Fair Funding Now! for our public schools, as well as discussing LGBTIQ resources available to schools to create safe and inclusive environments.

While the majority of the work of the union and its members is about fighting for our workplace rights and the learning conditions of students, we are also committed to a larger battle to build a just and fair society for everyone that our future generations can enjoy.

Fair Day provided an opportunity to combine campaigning with celebrating and allowed our LGBTIQ Special Interest Group members the opportunity to meet.

The day is one of the largest events on the Mardi Gras calendar with approximately 80,000 people attending. Federation was able to demonstrate our commitment to equality, including LGBTIQ equality, by being a part of this fun and colourful day.
