Suggestions for dealing with school predicaments covered in CPL course
Members looking for ideas to deal with the challenges they may face as executives in schools were presented with a range of options at a recent Centre for Professional Learning course.
Role plays exposed course participants to various means of resolving difficult situations, including mediation, negotiation and compromise.
Teachers were made aware of policies, procedures, guidelines and agreements that are relevant to the resolution of difficult situations in schools and how they should be utilised.
They also heard about various resources, support mechanisms and structures that are available to assist them in resolving difficult situations in schools.
“This course opened my eyes to the way we conduct ourselves in and out of school and how important following and knowing policy is,” one member stated on their course evaluation form.
Another course participant said they found the role plays “very beneficial”, particularly the mediation/negotiation/compromise scenes.
Managing Difficult Situations in Schools is intended for principals and executives in leadership positions in schools and teachers relieving in or aspiring to those positions.
Completing the course will contribute five hours of NESA Registered PD addressing 6.3.2, 7.1.2, 7.2.2, 7.3.2, 7.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW. Keep an eye out for future dates at cpl.asn.au.
