Join us to rally for refugees

March 24, 2021

As a social justice union, Federation rejects racism, xenophobia and intolerance and aims to demonstrate these values with a strong presence at this weekend’s Palm Sunday Peace Rally for Refugees.

The theme for the Palm Sunday Rally on 28 March is “Justice and a Fair Go for Refugees”; and carries four messages for action:

  • Free the refugees, close all the camps
  • Permanent visas not poverty
  • Peace not militarism
  • No to racism.

The rally will call upon the Federal Government to offer permanent visa protection and the chance of family reunion to all refugees and those seeking asylum, as well as access to training, the right for all to work and income support for those who cannot.

Australia is obligated by the United Nations Convention to protect those seeking asylum and, despite continued national and international condemnation, the inhumane treatment of asylum seekers and the vilification of refugees continues.

The rally will demand the Australian Government’s continued policies of detention and torture of refugees must end.

To show support, members can:

  • advertise the Palm Sunday Peace Rally in schools and workplaces
  • attend the rally, following the NSW Health guidelines for a COVID safe event
  • tell the Government it’s time to end its cruel policies and mistreatment of refugees, via social media
  • tell the Government it’s time for a fair and just policy that maintains the health, dignity and respect of all who seek our country’s protection.

Federation members are urged to support the rally, this Sunday, 28 March, at Belmore Park, adjacent Central Station, from 2pm. For more information on the event click here.
