Federation members took the long-term Rebuild Our TAFE campaign to Sydney’s west today as our Public Service Association colleagues in workplaces across the state face losing their jobs under NSW Government cuts.

Minster for Skills and Tertiary Education Geoff Lee is threatening to cut 678 support staff positions, including security guards, maintenance and logistic workers and student support staff.

In the South Western Sydney region, 92 jobs are being cut, with Granville TAFE slated to lose 15 jobs, six of those are Security Officers.

Security Officers are the first responders to all first aid issues on campus and are also the site wardens for emergencies and the evacuation of colleges. The loss of these important positions will put the safety and wellbeing of students and staff at risk

State Labor Shadow Minister for Skills and TAFE Jihad Dib addressed the 100-strong rally, which included Federation members who joined those from the PSA, the Independent Education Union, Australian Manufacturing Workers Union, and Granville TAFE students to protest against cuts at their local TAFE.
