Employment Conditions

The salaries and working conditions of NSW public education teachers have been determined in a bargaining progress between Federation, representing our members, and the relevant employer. These awards/enterprise agreements are legally enforceable.

Some aspects of working conditions, including leave arrangements, are governed by Determinations made by the Secretary of Education under the Teaching Service Act 1980.

Also legally enforceable is the Agreement between the NSW Department of Education and the NSW Teachers Federation on the Staffing of NSW Public Schools 2021-2023.

The union has a large bank of documents available to members, which provide information and advice on topics related to teachers’ employment and information explaining teachers’ rights and responsibilities. Individualised advice is also available from the Federation’s Professional Support section.
