JPL more popular than ever

Members took advantage of the resources provided by the Journal of Professional Learning (JPL) and tuned into the JPL Podcast in 2018.

JPL’s collection of free, online professional learning resources include 69 articles which have been accessed more than 56,000 times, and 26 podcast episodes which have been played or download nearly 17,000 times, all available to read online, and to print, download and share.

A significant JPL article by the late Richard Gill, The making of a teacher: Why NAPLAN is not good enough for us, became the JPL’s most popular article of all time and his contribution proved significant within Federation’s wider NAPLAN campaign in 2018.

Other important articles included Pat Forward’s More than ‘on-the-job’ skills: Why your students will need university qualified TAFE teachers and special support for new syllabuses such as Technology Mandatory, English, Geography and Mathematics.

The JPL Podcast celebrated its first birthday as the NSW Teachers Federation marked its 100-year anniversary and special podcast episodes included The making of a teacher: Starting out in 1911, Tom Alegounarias’ Professional Teaching Standards and Dr Les Perelman’s Teaching and assessing writing.

The Semester 1, 2019 edition of JPL will be published in Term 1 next year and there will be more significant JPL Podcast episodes released covering topics including autism, visual arts, English as an additional language or dialect and music.

Reading JPL articles and listening to JPL Podcast episodes continues to contribute towards meeting teachers identified professional hours for maintenance of accreditation and professional learning goals for the Performance and Development Framework.
