Music among the new CPL course offerings

Kathy Deacon
Director, Centre of Professional Learning

New music, history and mathematics courses will be offered by the Centre for Professional Learning in semester 2.

The CPL is partnering with the Association of NSW Regional Conservatoriums (ANSWRC) for the Music K–6 course, to provide high quality professional learning to support infants and primary teachers who wish to use music as an element of their classroom practice. Presenters from the ANSWRC, with a wealth of music education expertise, will deliver the course in Surry Hills, and new regional venues Dubbo and Wagga Wagga.

Other new courses are History 7–10 (to be offered in Blacktown) and Mathematics 7–10 (Surry Hills).

Courses to be offered in Parkes — another new regional venue — are Maths K–6, Reading/Writing K–6 and Grammar K–10. The courses focus on supporting the new NSW syllabuses which are aligned to the Australian Curriculum.

The major Equity! Now More Than Ever conference, to be held in Surry Hills on November 7, is for teachers and educational leaders in school communities with high concentrations of students from low socio-economic status families. Participants will partner with academics and experienced teachers to share practical ways to work with students, staff and communities to improve learning. Research from the University of Western Sydney’s Fair Go Project will be a major focus of the conference.

At this stage 11 different courses are scheduled for semester 2 (across venues in Surry Hills, Blacktown, Newcastle, Parkes, Dubbo and Wagga) but the CPL is developing more courses. Additional course offerings will be posted to the CPL website as they are finalised.

CPL courses are registered and accredited by the Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards and all time at courses counts fully for maintenance of accreditation.

All financial members of Federation are eligible to apply to attend CPL courses. Members are able to access course and conference information and enrol in courses at the CPL website
