May Day success

May Day events proved a great success and a timely reminder of what workers have achieved and the struggles we have ahead.

Federation was well represented at the biggest May Day in years.

Events, with the theme A Proud Past, A Fighting Future, were bigger and better than in recent years.

May Day events in Sydney kicked off with a Toast to May Day dinner at the Cypriot Club in Stanmore on May 1. The dinner was very well attended with representatives from a large range of unions. As in previous years, the highlight was a rousing and boisterous speech from the President of the May Day Committee, George Gotsis.

The May Day parade and rally enjoyed a greater profile this year, highlighted by the re-inclusion of vehicles and floats. The numbers were testament to its great success. Numbers were also well up in similar parades in Newcastle, Wollongong and Orange.

Federation was well represented at the parade with a great contingent. Project Officer and Inner City Teachers President Adam Willis addressed the rally.
